The future
location of Rosebud Centre.
Rosebud School of the Arts is utilizing the funding to build Rosebud Centre, a 10,000 square foot two-story wood-framed building. The new building will include an enlarged gift shop, tourist information service centre, flexible education teaching space and a restaurant to complement the current dining capacity at the Mercantile Dining Room. In addition to creating jobs, these improvements will further generate revenues by allowing the facility to operate year-round and enable more local and regional events, conferences, and festivals to be held in Rosebud.

Rosebud, Alberta (October 03 2009) – Kevin Sorenson, Member of Parliament for Crowfoot, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, “I’m proud that our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is making an investment in a facility that will benefit both the economy and environment in Rosebud,” said MP Sorenson. “expanding Rosebud Centre will help create jobs, improve “All strong and vital communities have arts and culture at their core,” said Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit. “the Government of Alberta is pleased to support this worthwhile project that will provide more Albertans with access to culture and further strengthen economic activity in the community and surrounding areas.”
Federal funding of $2 million is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s economic action plan. In addition, the Government of Alberta is contributing $450,000 through the Community Facility Enhancement Program.
“On behalf of the board, staff, students, volunteers and stakeholders in our organization we extend our thanks and appreciation to the Governments of Canada and Alberta for their support of Rosebud Centre,” said Bob Davis, Executive Director of the Rosebud School of the Arts. “this project marks a new era for our school, theatre and community, one that will greatly enhance the development of arts and education in rural alberta while at the same time creating jobs, opportunity for youth and important new facilities for tourism and culture that Canadians will enjoy for years to come.”
In addition to the economic benefits, Rosebud Centre will also have a positive environmental impact. it will be designed to capture the snow load and rainfall to supply the Centre’s landscaping needs, thereby reducing the amount of water required from the municipal system.
A part of Canada’s economic action plan, the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) is a two-year, $1 billion national program that will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities. The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
